Are you trying to do something which imwrite(A, filename, 'jpeg') or
A=imread(filename, 'jpeg') can't handle?  This is available in at
least MatLab 5.0 for WinNT and MatLab 5.3 for SunOS.  It doesn't let
you access the full range of JPEG options, but does allow the quality
factor to be set.
